Okaaay i can see this forum does not get used much. Well i have a simple yet effective topic .This or that (Better yet this X-man or that one) I have a couple of starters for us . Feel free to expand on why you like this X-man over that one, or if you can think of anybody who may make a decent this or that .

Emma Frost VS Jean Grey as team telepath.
Rogue with Ms. Marvels package VS Rogue with just power stealing.
Wolverine no origin VS current day Wolverine.
Storm VS Cyclops as effective field leader.
Sage VS Prodigy as most analytical X-man.

Well i hope that gets us rolling.

Thanks so much for starting this post. I was so excited to see it. I used to be a avid comic reader and collector in my youth but I've been out of it for about 15 years. I am familiar with most of the characters below so I will take shot at a response:

Emma Frost VS Jean Grey as team telepath.
I say Jean Grey. For me it's hard not to think of Dark Phoenix when I think of Jean Grey, and Phoenix was one powerful entity! On top of that Jean Grey had the training of Professor X and the backing of the X-Men. Pretty good package. Emma Frost on the other hand...I don't know what she's up to in the Marvel Universe these days, but the last time I followed comics she was part of the Hellfire Club which I never really looked at as a formidable enemy for the X-Men.

Rogue with Ms. Marvels package VS Rogue with just power stealing.
Whenever I think of Rogue I always think of a Rogue that can fly, so...Rogue with Ms. Marvels package is my answer to this one.

Wolverine no origin VS current day Wolverine.
First off, Wolverine is hands down my favorite character of all time. Now, as I said before, it's been a long time since I followed comics closely, and I honestly don't know too much about what has developed for his origin. I will say that to me his mysterious background was always a big part of the character that was Wolverine and if he no longer has a mysterious backgound, then he has changed as a character in my view. It used to be so exciting when a little never-before-printed tidbit of his background came out in an issue...it sounds like maybe this does not happen any more. My answer for this one is Wolverine No Origin.

Storm VS Cyclops as effective field leader.
Cyclops was such a poon. I am not even going to write anything else on this one. My answer is Storm.

Sage VS Prodigy as most analytical X-man.
I am not even familiar with either of these characters!

Update: I just Googled Sage and Prodigy. Sage is formerly Tessa from the Hellfire club and later Britannnia from Excaliber. Now I remember her. And Prodigy, evidently he used to be part of the New Mutants. I always thought the New Mutants was one of the weakest X-Men spinoff covers. Most of the New Mutants characters were pretty out there...
My vote for this one is Sage.

I haven't read too many of the comics at all. I remember some of the old cartoons and the movies and that's about it.

Wolverine no origin VS current day Wolverine.
I have to totally agree with RussMonster the mystery of wolverine was more exciting and just having tidbits put in where people have to put it altogether themselves I think is more interesting then somebody saying here this is what happened.

Storm VS Cyclops as effective field leader.
I have read a bit on both and I have never really favored cyclops' character, so for me Storm is an easy pick.

The rest of these questions I don't really know what they mean or can answer. Although I'd like to ask everyone's favorite hero and villain X Men character and why.
